The role
Based out of the Hamilton workshop, your duties will be split between workshop and on-site field service. You'll tackle complex repairs and maintenance across a range of internal combustion (IC) forklifts and heavy machinery.
Your expertise in diagnostics, electrical systems, and hydraulics will ensure minimal downtime for clients, while your ability to work autonomously will make you a trusted problem-solver.
This is a permanent, full time role offering a minimum of 40 hours per week.

Duties will include:
- Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical faults in IC diesel forklifts
- Perform routine servicing, including engine overhauls, brake systems, and transmission repairs
- Troubleshoot advanced control systems, wiring, and battery-powered components
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with NZ regulatory standards
- Manage parts inventory, source components, and liaise with suppliers
- Provide clear technical advice to clients and maintain detailed service records
- Mentor junior technicians and contribute to team knowledge-sharing
Skills sought
- A relevant trade qualification (NZQF Level 4 or equivalent) in Automotive Engineering, Heavy Mechanics, or related field
- 3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing IC diesel forklifts or similar heavy machinery
- Strong electrical aptitude: the ability to interpret schematics and diagnose CAN-bus systems
- Expertise in hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, cylinders) and diesel engine diagnostics
- Current full driver's licence (Class 1 minimum; Class 2 or 4 advantageous)
- Certifications in OSH/WHS or forklift operation (desirable)
- A proactive mindset with meticulous attention to safety protocols
